The Slaughter at Stalingrad by ~Rommel101:iconRommel101:

The Slaughter At Stalingrad
The Germans truly thought that they could win the war
Their tanks swarmed across the border into Russia with a roar
30 miles from Moscow, the dreadful decision was made
Attack the city of Stalingrad, that was soon to be their grave
Hitler boldly told his troops that they would not retreat
Even if they all fell dead, at Stalin's murderous feet
The Russians fought for every inch of their precious soil
Their casualties were many, making their blood boil
They continued to fight on and on, never losing hope
The Russians gave their very all, and the German lines were slowed
From that day on in Stalingrad it was a game of cat and mouse
As German and Russian soldiers fought to the last for every house
The days dragged on and no more advance was made
The Russians were now prepared to fight, to their dying day
Then the end of the tale at Stalingrad suddenly appeared
A defeat that shook even Hitler and struck his heart with fear
The Germans had been defeated on that bitter day in February
Stalingrad stood a smoldering wasteland, a silent cemetery
The souls of those brave men who died
Still mark the places where they lie
For Stalin, for Hitler, for their families and their friends
They proudly served their countries, to the bitter end.

This is just a small poem that I was inspired to write late last night. I love studying WW2, however, there are many parts of the war that I can honestly say do make me tear up at times. When you think about all the lives that were lost in such a short amount of time, its so saddening...you cant help but feel like crying. Many people say I should forget about the war and move on, because it was 60 years ago. How can I forget the war that changed the world forever? My grandpas also fought in the war, so I will never look away from what happened there so many years ago. I hope you enjoy this poem, and im sorry if i messed up any...it was late!:D C yall!
